Coastal Bend of Texas

One word sums up the Coastal Bend of Texas’s biggest tourist draw: beaches.

With Padre Island, Mustang Island and Padre Island National Seashore, this part of the Lone Star State is the perfect place for outdoor recreation – ranging from beachcombing to extreme water sports.

The 130,434-acre Padre Island National Seashore, the longest undeveloped stretch of barrier island in the world, is renowned among birders, too, who will find hundreds of species of native and migratory birds.

No Place Like Home

Tupelo, Miss., will forever be known to music fans as the birthplace of Elvis Presley‚ who was born there on Jan. 8‚ 1935.

Even though the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll moved to Memphis when he was a teenager, Elvis never forgot Tupelo. In fact, he donated the proceeds of a 1957 concert held there to the city to purchase land for a park on the east side of town.

Now‚ more than 60‚000 people from around the world visit the King’s birthplace each year, where they’ll find a museum, gift shop, chapel and park.

This Place Is Wild

There are many reasons to spend time in St. Louis, but it’s hard to beat a day at the St. Louis Zoo.
The state-of-the-art biopark is home to 5,000 animals from 700 species and includes an insectarium, primate house, children’s zoo and a passenger train that weaves its way through the property.

Visitors can also enjoy sea lion shows and admire the zoo’s waterfowl collection, which is the largest
of any public institution in the nation.

Admission to the zoo is free, but there are fees for some attractions. Visit www.stlzoo.org.

The Pearl of the Rockies

Boulder, Colo., is a place that blends rugged,
natural beauty with a decidedly cosmopolitan flair. And nowhere is that unique mix better reflected than on Pearl Street.

The Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder is a scenic outdoor shopping district that combines trendy shops, outdoor cafés and unusual art galleries with a wonderful view of the Flatiron Mountains.

The mall, which underwent a $4 million renovation a few years ago, runs between 11th and 15th streets and is full of flowers, wooden benches and public sculptures.end of article
